The church at Pergamos was sitting right on top of a nuclear sin reactor, āwhere Satanās throne is.ā This would be like living in the twenty-kilometer radius zone around a melting down Fukushima-Like nuclear reactor. And Satanās throne was just pumping out wave after wave of all this marrow-shriveling radiation for the soul. So Pergamos had developed spiritual immunity problems.
They had been doing really well for a while. They held fast to Jesusā name, even when one of their great leaders was martyred. But by the time Jesus examines the church at Pergamos, His people were falling for one of the oldest tricks in the book. In the book of Numbers, the prophet Balaam, paid by a wicked king, taught Israel to sin so that God would come against them and destroy them.
And when Jesus examines Pergamos, He finds them holding to the doctrine of Balaam.
