They chose not to give Satan a foothold in their lives by getting rid of every occult object and book that they owned. Thatās why Paul tells the Ephesians they arenāt fighting against flesh and blood, but against the āspiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.ā
And so in order to put on the armor of God, to shield themselves against all the temptations and the flaming arrows of the evil one, they chose not to put temptations before their eyes. And they didnāt just close it all up in a drawer. They dragged it all out onto their front lawns and set it on fire. Godās church is always strongest when itās purest.
The level of their desire to repent and follow the Lord was seen in this costly choice to rid their lives of anything that displeased Him. Their example recorded by God in His Word should stir us to ask, āHave we likewise carefully purged out of our lives anything that displeases the Lord?ā
One of the biggest reasons people refuse to come to church is because of all the hypocrisy. But when Godās people are consecrated, when, as Acts 19:18-20 says, they take out their secret sins and burn them on the front lawn for all to see, unbelievers are attracted to the powerful holiness of Godās people.
When Godās people are consecrated, the church has the power that the whole world can see.
