Following The Divine Guide Down The Path Of Life

The question in our minds is always – HOW? So this morning listen to God’s Word and learn how to be Walking the Divine Path With the Divine Guide, Down the Journey of Life.

 

When Paul wrote to a church he had never visited – what was his message?

 

When Paul wished to disciple and nurture a group of far away saints he never would get to know face to face – what did he tell them to do?

 

When Paul saw his ability to get around limited by prison – what was he encouraging others to do?

 

To find out, turn with me to the 3^rd of his four epistles written from prison – Colossians 3.16-17.

 

• What was Paul’s answer to spiritual warfare? “The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”.
• What was Paul’s method for personal nurture and growth in those he discipled? “Let the Word of Christ richly dwell in you.”
• What was Paul’s last word on doctrine, reproof, and correction? “All Scripture!”

 

So this morning what do we need to help us live a life that matters?

What do we need to make it in this world?

What will maximize the well done of Christ some day?

How can we accomplish what He has called us to  do?

 

Colossians 3.16-17 says it all – LET THE WORD OVERFLOW YOUR LIFE. That is what we have been called the Word filled life.

To explain the Word filled life we have been studying Psalm 119.

 

Psalm 119 is a Psalm or song written by God to summarize the power and purpose of His Word. Longer than all but three of Paul’s epistles – we have a book within a book, by the Author of the Book about the Book of Books!

 

Psalm 119 is a call by the Lord to each of us – to unleash His Word into our lives today.

As we open to the 119^th Psalm this morning, we open to the greatest commentary ever written on the Bible.

 

Woven into the 119^th Psalm we find 10 amazing words. These are words that God chose to describe His Word – the Bible.

 

Each of these words[1] is a picture. Each portrays a different facet of what the Lord wants to do in each of our lives this morning if we allow Him to.

 

PRECEPTS: When His Word is filling our lives we are Following the Divine Directions for Life that are right and cause great rejoicing. (21x)

• Have you ever tried to put a bike or wagon together without the directions? How about a desk or a lawn mower? It is hard – but what about the directions for life, for marriage, for parenting, for business… where are they? Right here.
• Psalm 119:4, 15 You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. 27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.  40 Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.

 

 

1	WAY: When His Word is filling our lives we are Walking the Divine Path with the Divine Guide, down the Journey of Life. (13x) Our family went to Mammoth Cave one year. It was beautiful, but at the end as they always do – they had us sit and then turned out the lights. Then the guide said, you are 140 feet underground. It is 14 stories of solid rock above you, there is no light for ¾ of a mile of winding, wet, dangerous passageways – do you need a guide? YES we all said. Do you see life that way? Without the divine guide of the Word, of Jesus walking us through life – it is even more hopeless than that cave. Psalm 119:1, 3, 5, 14 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord! 3 They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways. 5 Oh, that my ways were directed To keep Your statutes! 14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.
2	TESTIMONIES: When His Word is filling our lives we are Listening to the Divine Witness testifying to the Truth that is sure & makes wise. (23x) There is only person that knows your future. There is only one map that leads to the right destination. There is only one witness that will always tell you the truth about your origin, your purpose, and your destiny. And that One is here and His record is in this book – God’s Word ! Psalm 119:2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart! 24 Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors. 46 I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, And will not be ashamed. 59 I thought about my ways, And turned my feet to Your testimonies.
3	PRECEPTS: When His Word is filling our lives we are Following the Divine Directions for Life that are right and cause great rejoicing. 4	COMMANDS: When His Word is filling our lives we are Obeying the Divine Orders/Decrees of our Heavenly Captain that are perfectly pure and which enlightens our lives. (22x) Psalm 119:6 Then I would not be ashamed, When I look into all Your commandments. 10 With my whole heart I have sought You;  Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! 19 I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me. 35 Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.
5	WORD: When His Word is filling our lives we are Reading the Divine Word to obtain the Will of God.  (19x) Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. 38 Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You.  41 Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord— Your salvation according to Your word.
6	LAW: When His Word is filling our lives we are Receiving Divine Instructions  from the Ultimate Teacher giving Perfect Instructions that restores & transforms (Congo) (25x) Psalm 119:1  Blessed   are the undefiled in the way,  who walk  in the law of the LORD. 18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.  34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole  heart. 44 So shall I keep Your law continually, Forever and ever.
7	JUDGMENTS: When His Word is filling our lives we are Building Life upon the Unchanging Decrees of God’s Divine Decisions that are always true & vindicates. (23x)  (Wm. Borden) changing jobs, changing weather, upgrading, latest edition, newest version…
8	RIGHTEOUS: When His Word is filling our lives we are Acting upon the Divine Righteousness that Balances all of Life. (12x)
9	STATUTES: When His Word is filling our lives we are Using the Divine Plans or specs to build the Ultimate Life. (22x) Isaiah 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.
10	WORD: When His Word is filling our lives we are Hearing the Divine Voice walking us all the way through life. (24x)

• 78 Let the proud be ashamed, For they treated me wrongfully with falsehood; But I will meditate on Your precepts.
• 87 They almost made an end of me on earth, But I did not forsake Your precepts.
• RENEWS OUR LIFE: 93 I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life.
• 94 I am Yours, save me; For I have sought Your precepts.
• DEEPENS OUR UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE: 100 I understand more than the ancients, Because I keep Your precepts.
• DETECTS DANGEROUS VIRUSES: 104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.
• KEEPS US ON COURSE FOR LIFE: 110 The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not strayed from Your precepts.
• FILLS US WITH BOLDNESS: 128 Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.
• 134 Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts.
• 141 I am small and despised, Yet I do not forget Your precepts.
• 159 Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness.

11	FEAR: When His Word is filling our lives we are Practicing the Divine Condition of Fearing God that makes life clean & enduring (Bema)  (3373) Divine Condition that is clean and endures forever. (dried onions not zapped grew army words/moths). HIS CLEAN FEAR ENDURES  (v. 9a 3373 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever) = The Word of God is the Divine Conditions (eternal life) THE DIVINE CONDITION. This is fearing God, lovingly acknowledging by my actions God sees me. Enduring forever. Filth brings decay, but cleanness is the great foe of corruption. The grace of God in the heart being a pure principle is also an abiding and incorruptible principle, which may be crushed for a time, but cannot be utterly destroyed. it will cleanse our way, Ps. 119:9. And it endureth for ever; it is of perpetual obligation and can never be repealed. The ceremonial law is long since done away, but the law concerning the fear of God is ever the same. Time will not alter the nature of moral good and evil. The fear of the Lord] hary  yirah, from ary  yara, to fear, to venerate; often put for the whole of Divine worship. 12	TRUTH: When His Word is filling our lives we are Believing the Divine Truth from God that stabilizes all of life. (530) hnwma Emunah, from ÷ma aman, to make steady, constant, to settle, trust, believe. In Psalm 119 this word occurs in v. 30; 75; 86; 90; 138.The law that is established steady, confirmed, and ordered in all things, and sure; which should be believed on the authority of God, and trusted to as an infallible testimonyfrom Him who cannot lie nor deceive. Faithfulness, hnwma emunah: nor does it appear in Ps 119:90, where it occurs, to be used as a characteristic of God’s law, but rather his exact fulfilment of his promises to man. BELIEVING THE TRUTH
13	NAME: When His Word is filling our lives we are Honoring the Divine Revelation from the Creator of the Universe. (8034) µ shem, see Ps 119:132: but this is no characteristic of God’s law; it refers here simply to himself. Those that love thy name is the same as those that love thee.
