5. BEWARE OF SINS AGAINST YOUR OWN BODY: Revelation 2:20c—“sexual immorality” is a sin against our own body, all the other sins are outside sins. Sexual things are tied to us on the inside the very temple of God (1 Cor. 6:18).
What we all need to renew is the challenge of 1 Cor. 6:19-20 to consecration (asking God to control lead, protect, and cleanse me), we are not our own, we belong to God.
1 John 5:16 says there is a sin that leads to death. Not spiritual death. Remember, this is talking to believers here. But actual, physical death.
When believers persist in unrepentant sin, like the false teacher Jezebel, and like those who are following her in Thyatira, Jesus will make them weak, and then make them sick, and, if He has to, He will make them dead.
Jesus says the same thing in Revelation 2:23 “And I will kill her children with death.”
Just in case we’re unclear, it’s not just “kill,” it’s “kill with death.”
No confusion. This is a serious sin, and it’s infecting the rest of the church.
Jezebel’s students have gotten worse than the teacher, and Jesus is going to raise the temperature and burn out the infection to save the body.
The way the churches in America are going today, you can be living in sin, sleeping with your boyfriend, and singing on stage, and nobody does anything about it because we preach tolerance.
We’re all about love. But Jesus is all about holiness. And in His love, He won’t allow His body, the Church, to destroy itself.
The God of love doesn’t give me aspirin for the symptoms.
He goes after the disease.
And when we tolerate disease running rampant in our local church, the intolerant Jesus does the only loving thing and gets it out.
