6—Life without Jesus is Like Being Enslaved to the Worst Master: Revelation 16:8-9—Jesus has liberating power (vv. 8-9). He is the One who sets us free. Are YOU allowing Jesus set you free?
John 8:31-36 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ā€œIf you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.ā€ 33 They answered Him, ā€œWe are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ā€˜You will be made free’?ā€ 34 Jesus answered them, ā€œMost assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Since we do not have a break where we all walk around and talk, then the usual one-on-one talks can’t happen. In every class I teach, I have young men come up to me, and young women come to my wife and ask how to overcome sins that have enslaved them: fear, lust, materialism, and pride. Here is what we share from John Piper’s ministry called ANTHEM:
A – Avoid the sights and situations that arouse unfitting desire.
N – Say ā€œNoā€ to every lustful thought within five seconds.
T – Turn the mind forcefully toward Christ as a superior satisfaction.
H – Hold the promise and the pleasure of Christ firmly in your mind until it pushes the other images out.
E – Enjoy superior satisfaction.
M – Move into a useful activity away from idleness and other vulnerable behaviors.
