My life is only powerful when it is consecrated to God. If I am hoarding in my home, in my daily schedule, in my priorities, in my plans, something that promotes materialism, pride, sensuality, or the occult, then I am choosing to love what God hates.
I discovered recently that the bushes around my house were growing up against the walls, and I know they’re not supposed to grow up against the house like that, so I had to mercilessly cut them back. I never intended them to encroach on the house, but I had allowed them to grow that way without even realizing it. And when we aren’t systematically, mercilessly, cutting back what displeases God in our lives, it will slowly grow and cut God out of His first place in our lives. It will encroach on the space that should be reserved for God. So we must be like the Ephesians and cut back anything that robs God of His rightful place.
