The Moment
Jesus visited Kalamazoo to meet another of His precious children;
Just as the dark and cold river of death began to flow, and the Valley of Death’s Shadow began to creak open;
The only One who has ever defeated death, and destroyed him who had the power of death (that is the Devil) extended His arms toward David.
It was 545 AM and all of a sudden, David was acutely aware of hearing a voice, and as he listened he realized it was a voice that he knew so well.
Jesus said that “My sheep hear my voice, and they follow Me”.
So, to that voice of her Good Shepherd, David looked up Sunday for what would be the greatest day of his life. David had heard the voice of Jesus, coming to take him to Heaven.
David saw Jesus standing there, the One who had been crushed for his iniquities.
David then looked at Jesus’ face, the One that had been bruised for his transgressions.
Then David saw those hands that had been pierced for his sins on the Cross.
Those nail-scarred hands were reaching out for his, and David reached up.
When his family only saw that his tired and worn-out body had fallen silent, David had already firmly grasped those hands of Jesus, and slipped quietly out of bed; and headed with Jesus to the place prepared for him in God the Father’s home above. So, we are gathered here today because on that special day appointed for David, Christ Jesus left Heaven and arrived at David’s bedside, just as the Valley of Death’s Shadow drew near.
In that instant David, at last, was glorified into Christ’s likeness, stepping into the life that is endless, because of God’s Amazing Grace.
With a twinkle in his eye, and a spring in his step, David sat up in bed.
For the first time in months, he was unencumbered by a dying body.
Clothed with endless life, David went from that room arm in arm with Jesus.
David who had encouraged so many others all his days was now walking side by side with the God of all comfort, the Good Shepherd Himself.
As the tears flowed in that bedroom on Fineview Avenue in Kalamazoo, David could already see the Celestial City gleaming before her.
Jesus whispered to him that his room in His Father’s House was at last finished.
David was going to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
On Sunday when his fragile life ended, David came before the God of the Universe. What an awesome moment to be transported before Him.
