An insightful A.W. Tozer while pastoring, writing and traveling extensively wrote these piercing words that should stop each of us short today –

ā€œThis generation of Christians reared among push-button and automatic machines – are impatient of slower methods. They are trying to apply machine-age methods to God…we read our chapter, have our short devotions, and rush away – hoping to make up for our deep inward bankruptcy by attending another church service or listening to Christian radio.ā€

– How penetrating he spoke!

• to be a Christian is no less than to know God
• to know God is no less than to hunger and thirst after the only source that satisfies
– God
• to hunger and thirst after that source is no less than knowing God!

Knowing God!

– Do you know God today?
– Do you hunger and thirst to see Him in His word?
– Are you desiring as a newborn baby the only thing that satisfies – the Word

Let’s do an examination this morning –

In 1:29-39 – Jesus Christ faced 4 trials
1. constant fast-paced life
2. continually pressured by crowds
3. constant questioning by friends and foes
4. continual spiritual warfare –

In some way, so do each of you this morning!

What did it do to Him?

It made Him pursue knowing God!

Here’s the test –
What did life do to you this week in relation to God’s word?

Have you made the word, our primary avenue of knowing God –

• a priority? Or the priority?
– seek first God’s kingdom
• a pursuit? Or the pursuit?
– early will I seek Thee, my heart pants for Thee
• a private session? Daily?
– Thy face O Lord I will seek
• a persistently sought object? Daily?
– I have desired the word more than my daily food
